Q. Will WinDate Calculator run on Windows Vista and Windows 7? A. Yes, version 2.5 installs and runs on Vista and Win7. If UAC (User Account Control) is enabled, versions prior to v2.5 must be 'run as administrator'. See Microsoft Knowledge Base article KB922708 for instructions on how to make this change. Q. Why does WinDate Calculator trigger User Account Control? A. WinDate Calculator invokes the Borland Database Engine (BDE), which is considered a system function. Q. Will WinDate Calculator run on a 64-bit machine? A. Yes, version 2.5 can be installed and will run on a 64-bit machine. Installation is accomplished with InnoSetup, which is 64-bit compatible. Versions prior to v2.5 could not be installed on 64-bit due to the version of InstallShield used to install the program. Q. When I start the program, it just hangs at the splashscreen and I get a popup window with a 'Create failed' error. What is going on? A. The Borland Database Engine is unable to start due to permissions. For Vista and Win7 with UAC enabled, WinDate Calculator versions prior to v2.5 must be 'run as administrator'. For other Windows versions in a managed permissions environment, elevate the User's permissions on the BDE folder (typically C:\Program Files\Common Files\Borland\BDE) and the BDE registry key and subkeys (typicaly HKLM/Software/Borland). Q. I am unable to open the WinDate Calculator help file.. why? A. Microsoft stopped including the 32-bit Help file viewer in Windows releases beginning with Windows Vista. See Microsoft Knowledge Base article KB917607 for information about a download that helps you fix this problem. |
